Dr. Robinson offers an advanced technique of tightening skin by using a unique form of radio frequency energy, producing a kind of “facial toning ’ without an incision or extended recovery time.

This technique is called Thermage. The radio frequency (RF) energy uniformly heats the dermis (inner layer of skin) while cooling and protecting the epidermis (outer layer of skin). It is designed to tighten skin by helping to initiate the production of new collagen, which occurs over a period of time.

Each time a pulse of radio frequency is delivered there is an immediate cool sensation. Followed by a brief warm sensation, and again followed by a cool sensation. The comfort level is controlled by the patient.

The procedures may last one to two hours, or more, depending on the facial area (s) treated. By treating the skin of the forehead patients may notice a lifting of the eyebrows, enhancing the appearance of the eyes, making the eyes look more open and less tired. A patient may return to normal activities almost immediately, as there is usually little to no downtime. Minimal redness is seen in some patients but disappears shortly after treatment. Heat-related complications can occur but are uncommon. There is no special care needed after treatment. However, as part of good skin care, sunscreen is recommended.

The results of the treatment can last anywhere from several months to a few years, depending on the individual aging process of the patient. For enhanced results a repeat treatment can be performed 3 months after the initial treatment.

While not a replacement for a surgical facelift, Thermage can be beneficial for the patient who is beginning to see the signs of aging.
