For wrinkle reduction and restoring your skin to its natural beauty.
What is an Erbium laser?
The Erbium laser sets a new standard for laser skin peels, allowing your physician to
precisely vary the depth and the effect of your laser treatment. Your peel will be tailored to
match your skin condition and desired result.
What conditions can be treated with the Erbium Laser? Wrinkles
Epidermal Nevi
Acne Scars
Solar Lentigines
Actinic Keratoses
Hypertrophic scars
Surgical Scars
What will the laser do? Dr. Robinson will use the Erbium laser to remove thin layers of your skin’s surface, which will
be replaced by younger skin growth. The Erbium laser has the ability to provide a treatment
that is optimized to your skin condition. Your wrinkles will soften and become less
noticeable; some will disappear, and pigmented lesions will greatly improve.
What areas can be treated? Most skin areas can be treated. Popular areas are the face & neck. Discuss your needs with Dr. Robinson.
How long will it take to recover? Your healing time will depend upon your actual treatment depth. You will experience redness which may last for several weeks. Healing time does vary among individuals. Dr.
Robinson can answer questions about temporary changes to your skin color and how they
may be camouflaged.
What should I expect after treatment? For the first few days, the peeled area will be covered and protected from drying out by a thin adherent mask. This minimizes pain and speeds the healing process. After approximately 10 days, makeup may be applied to cover the redness of the treated area. This fades to a pink color over several weeks. It may take 8-10 weeks for total healing to occur. It will take 7-10 days to replace the outer layer of your skin. Redness is common and swelling may be present in the areas treated, however this should subside in a few hours. Your skin will have a residual pink or red color that will resolve over time. Dr. Robinson and his staff will instruct you how best to care for your healing skin.
Will it be uncomfortable?
The amount of discomfort varies from patient to patient. Dr. Robinson will discuss your
anesthesia options to properly manage any discomfort from the treatment.
Is there a risk?
Following the correct aftercare procedures prescribed by Dr. Robinson will reduce the risk of
infection. You will return to see him for follow-up visits to ensure excellent healing.
What will happen during the procedure?
Your physician will administer anesthesia after discussing the options with you. Your eyes
will be protected with safety shields. The laser beam will be delivered through a computer
controlled device that automatically scans the area of your skin being treated. You may hear
a snapping or popping noise as the laser beam gently removes the outer skin cells. Your
procedure may take 30 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the area to be
treated and the depth of your peel.
What aftercare will I need?
It is important to follow Dr. Robinson’s instructions. You will be given some skin care
products and instructions on how to use them. This will minimize your risk of infection and
ensure the shortest healing time. The top layer of your skin will re-grow and can be covered
with makeup in 7 – 10 days. Your new skin will be very sensitive to ultra-violet light and
you must avoid sun exposure until fully healed. You need to cover your skin, wear a hat, and
use a good sunscreen if you go outdoors.
