Laser Hair Removal and Reduction

Laser hair removal or reduction requires multiple sessions and is performed by our registered nurses. Using the latest technology, we are able to remove those unwanted hairs. This will ensure that you will never need to shave, or use other depilatory devices.

Until now, the only options for removing unwanted hair were shaving, waxing, hair-removal creams, tweezing or electrolysis, and these are all temporary and/or painful. In the 1980s a Russian physicist, while developing the Ruby laser for defense purposes, accidentally lasered himself on the arm. He noticed that the hairs in the lasered area were vaporized, and new hair growth occurred only after a number of months. As a result of this accident, laser hair removal was born. Since that time, many advanced laser systems have been developed for removal of unwanted hair.

CoolGlide Laser Hair Reduction System

The CoolGlide Laser used at Oswego Spa and Laser can disable hundreds of hair follicles in less than one second...with long-lasting results. Following protocol and scheduling treatments within the correct time frame, patients can achieve a 90% or greater hair reduction. Common areas of treatment are face, legs, arms, underarms, back and sensitive areas like nipples and the bikini line. Multiple treatments are necessary to cover all stages of hair growth.

CoolGlide gives us the flexibility to treat all skin types. Fair skin with dark hair responds the best while deeply tanned skin and darker skin pigmentation may need more treatments. Average number of treatments is 8 to 10. GoolGluide is not effective on hair with no pigment such as blonde, gray or red hair.

Pre-treatment guidelines include;

• No tanning or self tanners 2 weeks prior to treatment,
• Hair length should be "5 o'clock shadow" stage.
• No plucking or tweezing between treatment.
• For areas that have never been lasered, waxed or shaved, start shaving every other day 2 weeks prior and come with a 5 o"clock shadow.
• No caffine 4 hours before treatment.
• Ibuprofen (800 mg) may be taken 30 minutes before treatment.

During treatment, the laser's cooling hand piece glides gently over the skin while pulses of light are delivered. The hair follicles absorb the light causing them to lose the ability to produce new hairs...the skin is left clear and smooth.
