Cosmetic Surgery Procedures

Face and Neck Lifts

A facelift with Dr. Robinson will tighten the lower portion (jowls) of your face and the neck area by removing excess skin and fat, tightening the deep muscle layer and redraping the skin. Light liposuction under the chin will reduce the "turkey neck" look. The necessary incisions for this procedure are hidden from view.

Facelift surgical time is about 3 hours after which you will go home to rest with your head wrapped (see facelift video). The turbin like head dressing will help to minimize swelling. You will return the following morning to have the drain removed, a painless quick procedure. The head wrapping will be removed the following day and your hair washed by Dr. Robinson. The "clips" are removed on the 7th and 10th day, another quick and painless appointment.

Discomfort associated with a facelift is minor. Every patient's healing time is different, but usually you can head back to work after two weeks. Camouflage make-up will help hide any residual bruising after 2 weeks and complete healing can take up to 6 months.

A soft, fresh rejuventaed look is the result of this amazing procedure..

Browlifts

As people age, the brow tends to drop lower causing crowding of the upper eyelids creating a "sad or tired" appearance. Through incisions placed over the eyebrow itself, or behind the hairline, the brow is elevated to a more youthful position. At the same time, the muscle of the forehead is treated to prevent vertical wrinkling between the brows. Brow lifting can often be done before, or instead of, eyelid surgery to make the upper lids feel and appear lighter and more open.

Eyes (Blepharoplasty)

Upper eyelid tuck (blepharoplasty) is designed to corrrect the following imperfections, whether caused by genetic factors or the normal process of aging.

  • extra skin folds
  • sagging or drooping skin
  • protrusion or fullness

A small incision is placed in the crease of the eyelid, excess skin is removed and a small strip of excess muscle & fat is then removed. Sutures in the upper eyelid are removed one week after surgery. Bruising is minimal and make-up can be worn after one week. The final result is a visable smooth upper eyelid creating a "lighter awake" look. Women will find applying eyeshadow and mascara an enjoyable experience!

Lower lid blepharoplasty will remove the lower eyelid bags (fat pads) that tend to give a "tired look". Removing the lower lid fat pads can sometimes improve dark areas of the lower lid. The lower lid incision is just below the lashes extending just past the corner of the eye. The sutures will disolve within 7 to 10 days. You will be amazed how refreshed and awake this simple procedure can make you look.

It is typical to have the upper and lower lids done at the same time. Advantages to combining procedures are cost and recovery time.

Nose (Rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty surgery can re-contour a more pleasant profile. Nasal surgery can create dramatic results that harmonize with your other facial features. Special techniques can reconstruct your nose if you are unhappy with a previous nasal surgery. Nasal surgery can affect the following conditions:

  • too large (length, width or both)
  • crooked
  • bearing a hump or bump
  • wide or drooping tip
  • deformities caused by injury

The internal structure of the nose is composed of cartilage and bone. Nasal alteration is achieved by partial removal and/or reshaping of bone or cartilage to change the underlying shape of the nose. Generally, all incisions are made inside the nose and absorbable sutures are used. In some cases, a small external incision is placed across the columella. A splint is placed on the nose and is removed at one week post surgery.

Ears (Otoplasty)

Otoplasty is the surgical procedure to correct protruding ears. Protruding ears are often the result of the lack of folding on the uppermost portion of the ear. Overgrowth of cartilage in the cup part of the ear is another cause for ear prominence.

An incision is placed in the groove behind the ear allowing access to the supporting cartilage of the ear. This is then reshaped and positioned depending on the amount and type of deformity. Permanent "buried" sutures are frequently placed to hold the ear in its normal shape. Excess skin is removed and the incision closed with absorbable sutures. Scars remain hidden in the area behind the ear.

After surgery, a large soft dressing cushions and protects the ears for 2 days. Once the dressing is removed the paitent will wear a headband at night to protect the "accidental" folding of the ear while sleeping.

Otoplasty surgery is common in children age 6 and up and adults. Confidence is immediate after the protective ear covering is removed on the 2nd day.

Chin Implants

Mentoplasty surgery is designed to build up a weak or recessive chin. Although an isolated problem, it is often associated with nasal defority or prominence. Often patients will consider a chin augmentation along with a size reducing rhinoplasty to obtain a more pleasing profile.

Custom implants are made of silicone which react with little or not at all to the surrounding tissue. Placement of a chin implant is performed through an incision in the mouth just behind the lip. Tissue over the front of the chin is then elevated to form a pocket that houses the implant. The pocket is stiched to close the incision with dissolving sutures. Discomfort associated with mentoplasty is minor. Most swelling is gone within 10 days and a "tenderness" may last several weeks.
